The Seldom Seen Kid, the fourth studio album by Elbow, is the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize for Album of the Year for 2008. In a ceremony at London’s Grovesnor Park Hotel, the band picked up the award and a cheque for £20,000 to huge applause from the 11 other nominated artists and assembled guests.
The Seldom Seen Kid was recorded and produced by the band throughout 2007 with keyboard player Craig Potter at the helm. Elbow had signed a new deal with Fiction Records earlier in 2007 and the album saw its release on Sat 5 April. The album, and now the award, is dedicated to the band’s friend and Manchester musician Bryan Glancy who passed away in 2006.
