The Love Language’s self-titled debut from last year was a lo-fi effort in stateside misery; an Americana spin on what has been an Anglophone niche for decades. In early 2008 I saw Canada’s Broken Social Scene perform a lifeless and unimaginative set at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel. Touring with conspirators Stars and Feist for the Laneway Festival, BSS only managed a lineup of six that evening, and failed to inspire the increasingly antsy crowd. This was not the case on the 2nd of August, 2010, as BSS absolutely blew the Corner Hotel apart with a powerful, expansive and, most importantly, endlessly energetic set touring on the back of their excellent recent release Forgiveness Rock Record.
