In short, it’s gone.
Birthing WB we wanted to try something different. Yes, we had it on good authority that people generally don’t look too favourably on splash pages (the pages you must navigate before you get to the content). And yes, we were fairly aware that no matter how hard we tried to push the analogy of WB being a magazine, it’s a website – sharing the stage with content like girlsgonewild and boysgoingbananas rather than the newsstand with Rolling Stone and Q. But like any wide-eyed and possibly slightly naïve visionaries we felt that our model would be the one that defied trends and redefined markets.
While this hasn’t quite occurred, the site has developed to a level that we are both proud of and happy with. But to take the next step we’ve decided to make a few changes to better reflect the way the web is used.
Firstly, the splash cover is gone, its legacy only to remain in the weekly send outs – so subscribe now. Secondly, we will be publishing new content daily as of today. That means you'll be able to come to WB any day of the week and find a fresh piece of indie music journalism, be it a review, news item, live gig review, interview or editorial piece.
To get the most out of these changes, there are two things you can do. Firstly, the cover will not be lost completely, it will feature in our weekly mail out at the end of the week that highlights the best bits from the preceding week (head to the home page to subscribe, it's easy). Secondly, to keep up to date with the daily updates, our RSS feed is the perfect tool, simply click on the little orange box in the address bar and follow your browser's prompts.
Apart from these publishing changes the site will stay the same and will still deliver the gourmet indie coverage that you’ve grown to love (or at least has remotely entertained you from your workstations at the call centre while you wait for your band to get that record deal… it’s coming. We believe in you).
We hope that these changes, plus some new additions to our working party, will strengthen both our delivery and our content, and that you, the avid music fan, will enjoy the new format.
Cheers,
The WB Team
